Ashley McBryde Releases Brand New Track “Martha Divine”

CMA New Artist of the Year Ashley McBryde relies on her Arkansas roots to infuse her blue-collar songwriting with grit and passion that can only come from real-life experiences, as manifested in “Martha Divine.” Co-written with Jeremy Spillman, produced by Jay Joyce and debuting today (Monday, Jan. 13), “Martha Divine” offers a modern-day take on a female vigilante, recalling the little sister in “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” (Reba McEntire, Vicki Lawrence).

The percussive intro, driving beat and McBryde’s searing vocals set the tone for an intense 3:41 that Stereogum calls, “…a roiling country revenge tale with a little twist.” The accompanying video, which also premieres today exclusively on NPR, punctuates each lyric with its dark, brooding lighting and shadowy street scenes. Directed by Reid Long, the video is the second in a three-part series, following the release of “One Night Standards” in December.

McBryde shared with NPR, “‘Martha Divine’ was so much fun to write because Jeremy Spillman (co-writer) wasn’t afraid to get weird with me. I told him I wanted to write something dark and we created this story that surrounds the most delightful trollop of a human being and gets down underneath the fingernails of the uncomfortable truth about family dynamics. I was certain no one would let me shoot a video that actually reflected the lyrics, but Reid Long helped me bring it to life in a way that only he could.”

Of the song, NPR notes it’s the “singer’s rowdiest jam to date, the track weaves its revenge narrative into a family’s complicated history,” and praises its “raucous, hooky, fist-pumping catharsis.” And adds, “When she plays it live, this thing will shake ceilings.”

Later this week, McBryde will perform her twice 2020 GRAMMY-nominated breakout smash, “Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” on the third hour of NBC’s Today Thursday, Jan. 16. The following evening, Jan. 17, McBryde will perform “One Night Standards,” the debut single from her upcoming sophomore release, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, also on NBC.

Due out spring 2020 via Warner Music Nashville, McBryde’s forthcoming LP has been hailed as one of the year’s most anticipated albums by NPR and Rolling Stone. McBryde spent 11 years in Nashville writing songs and playing for anyone who would listen. With her 2018 major-label debut Girl Going Nowhere, McBryde proved she’s got what it takes. Put simply by NPR, “Ashley McBryde [has] established herself as country music’s most charismatic, naturalistic new voice.”

McBryde’s 2020 One Night Standards Tour kicks off Thursday, Jan. 30 in Birmingham, Alabama. For more information and additional tour dates, visit ashleymcbryde.com.

David Nail Returns With New EP Release ‘Oh, Mother’

GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter David Nail is back with his first solo release since 2016, Oh, Mother. The EP features two self-penned tracks and a cover of “La Cienega Just Smiled” along with a piano version of the title track.

The country hit-maker known for megahits like “Whatever She’s Got” and “Let it Rain” uses his platform to tackle real-life issues like depression and mercy with a darker, yet hopeful, theme throughout. Oh, Mother can be streamed and downloaded here.

“Forgiveness” is already receiving heavy support from Spotify on their Country Coffeehouse and Take it Slow playlists.

Rolling Stone says of “Oh, Mother” – “The song creeps in like a sunrise — quiet, restrained cello and keys are the only underpinning for Nail’s powerful vocals at first, but then it slowly builds to something more massive and majestic with a martial drumbeat and fuzzed-out bass guitar.”

CMT.com says, “this one is touching, heartbreaking, and has the kind of honesty that might take your breath away”

“I really wanted to release something before the end of 2019, but at the same time I didn’t want to just put something out, just to put something out. These songs, two of which I wrote early in the Spring of last year, were recorded in the early part of Summer. I kept coming back to these three, over and over, and finally it just hit me that these were the ones to come back with,” said David Nail.

In 2020, Nail plans on hitting the road hard, bringing the fans songs they know and love mixed with his new music. Speaking of new music, there’s way more of that on the horizon too as he plans to release multiple EPs over the course of the new year.

Keep up to date with everything David Nail through Facebook, Instagram and his website.

Oh, Mother Track Listing:
1. “Oh, Mother” (David Nail)
2. “Forgiveness” (David Nail and Donovan Woods)
3. “La Cienega Just Smiled” (Ryan Adams)
4. “Oh, Mother” (Piano Version)

The “Roar with the Lions Tour” will feature music from the band’s entire discography mixed with a dynamic selection of genre-crossing cover songs that are a signature mark of each Zac Brown Band show. The tour is grounded in the historic characterization of the lion, depicted as a symbol of strength, courage, and loyalty.

The crowd is our pride – rooted in togetherness and fiercely loyal. They always show up for each other, no matter what, just like our fans always show up for us. We can’t wait to hear you roar with us!”
