Somewhere in the Sea: It’s been a creative year for Kenny Chesney, who focused on pushing the music. The Big Revival, his 13th Billboard Top Country Album debut and yielded the multiple week #1 “American Kids,” as well as the Top 10 and rising “Til It’s Gone.” With time to focus on writing and recording, the East Tennessean got in the holiday spirit early with “Christmas In Blue Chair Bay,” an acoustic song about celebrating the holidays with people you love. The song and music video arrive at Country radio and on Vevo today.
Given the time and his innate creativity, Chesney made a very DIY video for the song – some culled from home movies of old friends from the islands – to capture the song’s intention. Having been off the road, he wanted to do something special for the fans, too: create a Christmas gift that they could share with their friends and family.
“Everybody says stuff like that, but it’s harder to do well than you’d think,” Chesney offers. “Thankfully, the people around me understood I wanted something people could make their own… the way the clip for ‘Christmas In Blue Chair Bay’ really is a lot of my old friends back when. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to create an online Christmas card… something they could send their friends, personalize with a message and different pictures.”
Fans can also enter – via Facebook or Email – a chance to win a pretty great Christmas present from Kenny by submitting their own customized Blue Chair Bay postcard. One Grand Prize winner will win a flyaway for two to the Bahamas as well as an exclusive Blue Chair Bay prize pack. Fans can check it out at https://christmas.kennychesney.com/.
“We all have those special places we like to go to get away with our friends or our family,” Chesney explains. “It doesn’t have to be the beach or the water… It could be a mountaintop or the desert. But somewhere you and yours go to get away from it all, and this video shows how that looks for me… And in the spirit of the season, I thought we could do a contest to send someone to my idea of paradise.”
As for the song, Chesney admits, “I didn’t set out to write a Christmas song. I was getting ready for a writing session, and we got talking about a lot of my trips to the islands. So many of them were around the holidays, people I know, adventures we’ve had and the way you can just savor a day when you don’t have anywhere you have to be.”
Chesney needs to enjoy his holiday! Beyond receiving the inaugural Groundbreaker Award from the American Country Countdown Awards Dec. 15, live on Fox, he’s already waist deep into video, lighting and staging meetings for The Big Revival Tour, which includes 18 major stadiums and kicks off March 26 in Nashville.
