Lit, rockers known for their highly successful mainstream hit, “My Worst Enemy,” have taken the No. 1 slot on CMT’s “12-Pack Countdown” with their latest heartfelt country hit, “Fast.” The music video made its world premiere on the network just a few short months ago, holding at the top half of the fan-voted chart for 11 weeks, and topped the chart on the January 6. The song will be on the full album expected to drop this spring.

“Fast,” co-penned by Lit members and brothers A.Jay and Jeremy Popoff, along with award-winning songwriter Jeffrey Steele, is a poignant song highlighting the importance of the people and moments in life and the fleeting of time. The video, co-directed by bass player Kevin Baldes and Kevin Garcia, was shot on location at Jeremy Popoff’s Orange County hotspot watering hole, Slidebar. It features friends and family members of the band, including Jeremy, A.Jay, and Kevin’s children. To view the chart-topping video, visit http://bit.ly/LitFastCMT.

Jeremy Popoff explains about what happened in the writing room that day saying, “’Fast’ was a song that A. Jay and I wrote with Jeffrey Steele, who is one of my favorite songwriters ever. We were actually finishing a different song and were an hour late for an important dinner meeting. We had this idea for ‘Fast’ that we had talked about that morning and as I was putting my guitar in the case to pack up, Steele kinda strummed a chord progression and mumbled a lyric that ended with … ‘Fast.’ We just started pouring out these words which were all connected to things that had happened in our lives. A couple times the three of us got choked up while trying to sing it down. We wrote way more lyrics for that song than we ended up using and we wrote it in about 45 minutes. It was just one of those special times we live for as songwriters.”

“Fast” struck a similar chord with fans that voted it up to the top spot this week. Lit is no stranger to No. 1s, their hit single “My Own Worst Enemy” held at the top of the Billboard chart for 11-weeks. Lit has been actively touring, writing, recording, and switching lanes over to country. It should come as no surprise, as the country genre is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the band.

As a Nashville SONY/ATV writer, Jeremy Popoff has landed cuts on Colt Ford, Jamey Johnson, Heidi Newfield and other records and successfully immersed himself in the country music scene nearly a decade ago, bringing his bandmates along a few years ago to share in the songwriting process that Nashville is fueled on.

“We’ve been writing songs in Nashville for a long time,” explains Jeremy Popoff. “It’s nice to find ourselves kind of reinventing our sound with flavors from our past mixed in with our love for other genres, including country. We’ve never been married to one specific style of music and I think our fans have come to expect that from us.”

Recently, Lit has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in country music, like Dustin Lynch and Chase Rice. They’ve toured with A Thousand Horses. In addition to “Fast” co-writer Jeffrey Steele, they’ve been writing with A-listers Jonathan Singleton and Corey Crowder (who is producing the new record.) The album is funded in part by a PledgeMusic campaign through which fans can purchase exclusive Lit memorabilia and experiences, as well as preorder the new record.
