Maddie and Tae Girl In A Country Song - CountryMusicRocks.net

Armed with two guitars and sass rarely heard from newcomers, MADDIE & TAE are shaking things up with their debut single, “Girl In A Country Song.” The first release from Dot Records will be available on iTunes (7/15) and is already making headlines with the bold introduction that has been touted as “fantastically unapologetic” and “gutsy.”

The female duo’s gumption has garnered praise from multiple outlets with high-profile magazine The Atlantic surmising, “‘Girl In A Country Song’ skewers the last few years of Nashville machismo—which is a refreshing change, and smart business.” With lyrics like, “we used to get a little respect, now we’re lucky if we even get to climb up in your truck keep our mouth shut and ride along. And be the girl in a country song,” it’s no wonder that the track was listed as a Taste of Country Critic’s Pick, which also commended the pair saying, “not since Gretchen Wilson has a female artist come out throwing punches like these.”

While fans of many of the recent songs in mainstream Country, the two began to ponder why “the girl” hasn’t had a voice. Maddie & Tae, who penned “Girl In A Country Song” with Big Machine Music staff writer and producer Aaron Scherz, admit their cheeky yet insightful tune is “all in good fun” and a viewpoint that hasn’t really been heard before. “We don’t want to bring the guys down, we just want to lift the ladies up as well,” says Tae.

Backing Maddie & Tae up for their light-hearted approach, CMT.com noted, “I really hope the guys whose songs are mentioned aren’t offended. But if they are, let’s just remember this: They started it.”

The female duo is currently on their first Country radio tour to introduce “Girl In A Country Song” in advance of the July 21 impact date. The single is generating substantial buzz, even among male tastemakers like VP Programming for Clear Channel Minneapolis/Program Director of KEEY GREGG SWEDBERG, who calls the song, “a potential game-changer for the format…the future is almost limitless.”
