Natalie Stovall and The Drive Overseas - CountryMusicRocks.net

Natalie Stovall and The Drive are preparing to travel overseas to entertain Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines serving abroad with the U.S. Navy. The band, in partnership with Navy Entertainment, will perform a series of shows in Asia this summer.

This tour marks their sixth trip with Navy Entertainment. Previous stops have included the Middle East, Asia, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Stovall is the daughter of a retired Army Colonel, making each trip a personal mission for the Tennessee native.

“There is nothing like the shows we do for the men and women who serve this country,” says Natalie.  “They are so grateful for us making the trip, and we are so grateful for their service.  It is just an awesome atmosphere to play in.”

Natalie Stovall and The Drive has been named “Artist to Watch in 2014” by: Country Weekly, Billboard, Taste Of Country, Roughstock, Digital Journal, Music Times, and more. This summer, People included the band in their “Hey, Country Radio! Here are Six Women Whose Music You Should Be Playing” List and Rolling Stone proclaimed them a “Must-See Act at CMA Music Fest.”

The critically acclaimed band’s debut album, produced by GRAMMY winner Paul Worley (The Band Perry, Dixie Chicks, Lady Antebellum), is expected to release this year on HitShop Records. The lead track, “Baby Come On With It,” and an EP are available now at iTunes.  The official music video for the song is available HERE.

  1. Hello Natalie Stovall & The Drive

When you get up on a stage overseas and want a song that will energize the troops … may I suggest the new song SERGEANT TROUBLE.

I’ve played this song for soldiers just returned from combat in Afghanistan. They all wanted a copy of the song. The song surely does echo the headlines in today’s newspapers.

Below I’ll paste the lyrics. It is a little edgy. But, a young warrior lives in an edgy world.

If someone there would like a copy of the sheet music and an audio file of the music, I’d be delighted to email the material.

My copyright registration number for the song is PAu003718962 (2014-03-10).

I work with a very talented, classically trained, arranger. Your musicians will enjoy the score.

Note: this song is about a Sergeant. The Sergeant can be in the Army, the Marine Corps or the Air Force. See Page # 2 of the sheet music where it explains the minor changes in the lyrics which are needed to make the song about a Soldier or a Marine or an Airman.

The song SERGEANT TROUBLE is a story. The story is about war in the 21st Century. Rather than thinking about this song as a standard, wanta-be Top 40 song, it may be easier to think of it as a cabaret song to which the singer and the band add a bit of drama on stage before a live audience. Also, SERGEANT TROUBLE can be thought of as the kind of song that is threaded in and out of the sound track of a movie.

    (sung)
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.

He was a young man, come down from the hills,
cold and hungry, looking for adventure.
So, he joined the Army and learned how to fight.
It’s a story as old as soldiers.

Sergeant Trouble, he’s no garrison soldier.
He never looks good on parade.
But, when the big shots get ‘emselves in a sight spot,
the cry goes out from the left and the right.
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.
It’s a story as old as soldiers.

All the fat cats their sons too precious for war
say he fights for noble ideas.
But, he only fights for the men in his platoon.
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.

It’s a story as old as soldiers.
    Late nights. Bar fights.
Yeah, waking up in the brig.
    A time or two A-W-O-L.
    Hey! He volunteered.
Ain’t war supposed to be Hell?
The cry goes out from the left and the right.
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.
It’s a story as old as soldiers.

    There’s times he dreams.
Dreams about them days of old,
when soldiers went to war not for words
    and a retirement plan,
but for land, women, and gold!
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.

    (spoken)
We send Sergeant Trouble and his men
again and again and again ………
out beyond the barbed wire to a
nameless hill where the truth “lies”
    and keeps changing sides.
Where nothing is …. as it appears to be
…. in our little wars that never seem to end.

    (sung)
The cry goes out from the left and the right.
    Sergeant Trouble!
    Get me Sergeant Trouble!
    On the double!
We need two dusty boots on the ground.
It’s a story as old as soldiers.
