Singer/songwriter, Danielle Bradbery, keeps surprising fans, releasing yet another track from her forthcoming, sophomore BMLG Records album I Don’t Believe We’ve Met due December 1. With her lead single “Sway” at radio now, Bradbery reveals the track “Potential,” along with a companion video on PEOPLE.
“Potential” makes the fourth track to be released from her transformational sophomore album, after Bradbery released single “Sway,” as well as tracks “Human Diary” and “Hello Summer” earlier this year.
“When I wrote it, the other girl in the writing room threw out the idea that ‘I’m not in love with you, but with your potential,’” Bradbery says as she explains the process of co-writing “Potential” with GRAMMY Award winning Emily Weisband to PEOPLE. “Our jaws dropped to the floor. It’s a beautiful but sad meaning people can relate to immediately… So we kept it as simple as possible and reflective.”
“Potential” is the second of the seven songs on the 10-song album that Bradbery co-penned to be released. After getting the opportunity to release her debut album in 2013 as the winner of NBC’s The Voice at age 17, Bradbery took four years to hone her writing skills and find her own style before re-introducing herself on I Don’t Believe We’ve Met. The album is a shift for the vocalist that Rolling Stone Country says has a “fresh new sound,” and shows the world who the Texas-native is, after focusing on her own style in the writing room and on the stage.
“If you’re not a songwriter on it personally, it felt like I was just that outer shell of the song,” Bradbery told PEOPLE of finally writing her own songs. “I wasn’t one with the song and I finally feel like I am. Writing really helped me figure out what the sound was going to be for my record.”
Written by Bradbery, Johan Lindbrant and Weisband, “Potential” captures the feeling of being in love with the thought of who someone could be rather than who that person actually is with lyrics such as:
If you just grew up, yeah
A little more, then
You know that you’d be perfect, you’d be perfect If you just tried harder Like I know you could, then You know that it’d be worth it, it’d be worth it
