Pearl Records’ Garth Brooks is celebrating topping the charts today, as his poignant and “romantic power ballad” (LA Times), “Ask Me How I Know” is No. One, landing the top spot on Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase Country Airplay charts. The track is Brooks’ 20th No. One and the first songwriting cut by newcomer Mitch Rossell. The feat also marks a full-circle moment for Brooks, as this week is the 28th anniversary of his first No. One with “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” which summited the charts on Dec. 9, 1989.
“I’m so proud of the Pearl Records team for working so hard for this No. One,” said Brooks. “Congrats to Mitch Rossell on his first cut…so happy for you, pal! And to country radio…four decades later, thanks for still believing. I’m humbled and very grateful.”
“When Garth charged me with the honor of putting together his promotion team for Pearl Records a little over a year ago, I dreamed of a team that would have the passion, the fight, the respect of the industry, the respect of country radio…one that could write a history making chapter for the greatest artist of all time, “ said Mandy McCormack, SVP Radio Promotion & Marketing at Pearl Records, Inc. “Congratulations Garth, Mitch and Pearl Records. History has been made and dreams have come true!”
“What a year this has been for Pearl Records!” said Lesly Simon, General Manager of Pearl Records, Inc. “Garth and Mitch gave all of us an incredible song and seeing it top the Country charts today, is just amazing. I am so proud of Mandy, Andy, Glenn, Hilary and Chris and honored to work side by side with them every day. Thank you to our friends in Country radio for making this very special No. One happen!”
Brooks is kicking off the final run of the Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood this week, returning to Nashville, TN on Fri. 12/9, where he will play seven shows at Bridgestone Arena to mark the end of the tour. In a little over three years, the tour has sold over 6.4 million tickets, making it the biggest North American tour in history and the biggest American tour in the world.
