Country superstar Eric Church is currently out on his headlining “Holdin’ My Own Tour.” Impacting over 60 cities throughout the year, Church is setting a cutting edge impact on the concert industry.
The singer/songwriter is certainly holdin’ his own with the delivery of two full sets, that’s right TWO FULL SETS, each night on his headlining tour. Performing around 40 songs over the course of three and a half hours, Church takes fans on an incredible journey each night highlighting his catalogue of music. “If you give me what we’ll give you, you’ll never forget this show” Church told fans in Portland last night, and he was absolutely right.
This is more than just “a show,” it truly is an experience, and an epic one at that. The 360 degree stage setup allows the country superstar to connect with everyone throughout the entire venue. Eric constantly makes his way around the stage, and instills a consistent connection with fans. With a raised video monitor above the stage displaying a live feed of Church and his band, coupled with simple yet fantastic concert lighting, this is probably one of the most stripped down major concerts, but in the best way ever. It is just Eric and his band entertaining the crowd with no additional hoopla, with the attention kept front and center delivering a big impact. That right there says something in and of itself, and is a testament to Church, his band and their artistry.
What Church delivered in his first set alone definitely would have sufficed, and is pretty much what would be expected at a typical concert. But make no mistake, this is not a typical concert. The opening set was filled with so many hits and so many favorites, it almost leaves you wondering what he has left to play for the second set. Well, Church has that more than covered. His second set was filled with even more hits, even more favorites, and many soon to be favorites, that you are reminded what a vast and amazing collection of music Church has blessed us all with over the years.
Showcasing music from his latest album Mr. Misunderstood, all the way back to his first release of Sinners Like Me, each night includes a personal touch from Eric. During the show he said it was important to him to have a different set list for each city, resulting in a couple of songs that he only plays that night for that specific city.
