Josh Abbott Gives Back with Random Act of Kindness

Small, random acts of kindness often make the biggest impact. Earlier this week, Josh Abbott, lead singer of the Josh Abbott Band, experienced this first hand while shopping at Target.

While in line paying for his items, Abbott received a $5 gift card back from the purchase he made. Rather than keeping the card for himself, Josh turned around and gave it to the person standing behind him. The lady that received the card subsequently burst in to tears. Abbott shared with local Lubbock, TX news station, KCBD, that he recognized this look.

“It was the same look my mother had when I was a kid and we were dirt poor and others helped our family financially.” Josh proceeded to hand her $100 to help her out. The lady is a single mother as well as a teacher and going throughout a hard year.

“I guess you just never know what someone is going through, and the kindness of strangers always wins the day” Josh says. “I’ve made some wrong choices in my life, and I don’t believe good deeds necessarily balance it out, but I do believe in trying.”

“I hope this message comes across as humbly and authentic as it is intended. It is because of all of you supporting our music that I’m able to help others in the first place. So thank you all!”

I rarely post “good deeds” because I feel they can come across as “boastful” (Matthew 6:1), but in the hopes of encouraging you to help others, here goes: While checking out at Target, I received a $5 gift card for a future purchase so I handed it to the lady behind me. She immediately teared up and couldn’t believe it. I recognized that look; it was the same look my mother had when I was a kid and we were dirt poor and others helped our family financially. So I knew to help her more. I handed her a $100 bill and said her items were on me this time. She bawled. She’s a single mother who is a teacher and said this year has been hard. I guess you just never know what someone is going through and the kindness of strangers always wins the day…I’ve made some wrong choices in my life, and I don’t believe good deeds necessarily balance it out; but I do believe in trying. I hope this message comes across as humbly and authentic as it is intended. It is because of all of you supporting our music that I’m able to help others in the first place. So thank you all!

Trisha Yearwood Talks Mother’s Day for Those Remembering Their Moms

This past weekend, Trisha Yearwood looked forward to Mother’s Day in a different way during T’s Coffee Talk  (her weekly Facebook Live chat timed to Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Food Network). After losing her own mom, the holiday has taught her to appreciate the moms in her extended circle more than ever.

“When you have your mom, you never think about the people who don’t,” Yearwood said (at 06:40 in the video link above). “It just doesn’t occur to you that Mother’s Day is tough for people. Now that I’ve lost my mom, Mother’s Day is tough for me. I’m a bonus mom of three girls, so I celebrate that way, but I miss my mom… If you have your mom, not just on Mother’s Day, call her every single day. Do not take it for granted. If you don’t have your mom, find a mom and hug her, and you have all my strength on Mother’s Day.”

Also last weekend, the Country star (whose current single “Broken,” is now a Top 20 hit on Mediabase’s Adult Contemporary Chart), helped honor another love in her life. As the American Country Countdown Awards were handed out at the “Fabulous” Forum in Irvine, CA on Sunday, Trisha delivered the news onstage directly to husband, Garth Brooks that he’d been named Touring Artist of the Year. Watch her surprise announcement at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa this past Sunday here.

As Des Moines shows wrap up, the deadline also approaches for fans to submit videos to be featured in an upcoming episode of Trisha’s Southern Kitchen. Each day this week until Friday May 6, Trisha will post a question for fans to respond with video answers using #TellTrisha. Participating in the conversation gives fans a chance to have their videos featured in the show

Kenny Chesney Debuts Highly Anticipated Music Video for “Noise”

Kenny Chesney made a video to match the reality-slamming urgency of “Noise,” the first single from Some Town Somewhere. Filled with quick cuts, slices of technology, talking heads, fashion models, vintage images, Donald Trump, a Kardashian and people yelling, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year was looking for somewhere to debut the groundbreaking clip where the cacophony he was trying to capture would truly be understood. There was only one choice: RollingStone.com.

“They have been the cultural and societal touchstone since I was a kid,” Chesney explains, “and that gives them the gravitas to reflect what Shaun and I were trying to capture in the song. This is not political, so much as social… if you want to get people to take it all in, to step back and really reflect, let’s put the video at the heart of where people who sort those things are.”

“…all in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shots. It’s almost like the music video equivalent of a Jackson Pollock painting: the busiest piece of art you’ve ever seen, with a million different strokes merged together into one beautifully chaotic theme,” offers RollingStone.com in their exclusive web-only feature around the clip, which debuted at 9 a.m. EDST (http://bit.ly/KCvideoRS).

The work of Chesney and longtime collaborator, award-winning director Shaun Silva, “Noise” is the visual manifestation of the song written as a reaction to too many shouting, not-talking heads, construction noise, sound pollution and tech overload. As Chesney told the iconic publication, “[The video] captures what was rolling around in my head, even in the initial conversation when we were writing. It really captured what I was thinking and the essence of how we can get lost in this fog and be drowned by all of it.”

Written en route to a marketing meeting for the original single from Some Town Somewhere, Chesney felt the song so captured the current moment. It was recorded 36 hours later – and the set-up was scrapped just two weeks before street date. The result? “Noise” became the most added song of the songwriter’s career.

MensJournal.com calls it “a guilty pleasure…,” raving, “Maybe it’s the trilling vocal delivery, catchy chorus or the stellar drum work – but primarily it’s the message.” USMagazine.com concurs, “It’s a comment on all the white noise in our lives — and the video reflects that.”

For Chesney, who is always a groundbreaker, this unconventional move – teaming with a platform of publication websites – was prompted by wanting to reach a variety of different audiences. Given the Wenner Media platform of general interest, men’s and music/culture publications, the man who’s sold in excess of a million tickets on every headlining tour is hoping to strike a chord among the most focused and culturally forward people out there.

He tells RollingStone.com, “We’re not preaching to anyone, we’re just making a statement about the way we live. The message is to try to be mindful of it. If you love someone, tell them you love them. Don’t text it to them! There is so much life to be lived outside our phones.”

With the 2016 Spread the Love Tour underway, Chesney is gearing up for a big summer. Some Town Somewhere lands July 8. With “Noise,’’ just outside the Top 10, it’s only beginning.
