2013 is serving as an impressive year so far for country newcomer Chris Janson. The talented singer/songwriter/musician has just released his second single, “Cut Me Some Slack,” to country radio. In addition, Janson’s debut self-titled EP, featuring Top 40 hit song “Better I Don’t,” is also now available. Janson has been rockin’ the country stage from coast to coast with his energetic performances, and leaving a lasting impression on fans along the way.
CountryMusicRocks caught up with Chris Janson to discuss his new music as well as his impressive year. His new single, “Cut Me Some Slack,” initially premiered on SiriuxXM Radio, and was just released to country radio this week. Of this new single Janson tells us, “It’s a true story, as all my songs are. It’s kinda the story of my life as far as when I was, if you will, chasing around my wife – which didn’t take too much chasing” Janson laughs. “It’s about a girl I gotta have, got to get you where I want you, you know exactly what you do. It’s the guy against the girl and the girl against the guy, the game people play when they are first starting a relationship. The dude is really just asking the girl to cut him some slack and give him a chance. If you don’t like him then that’s cool.”
Chris is excited about his new single and shares with us, “The song came out in about 30 minutes and now it is the new single. I’m really excited about it. It’s getting some great feedback.”
In addition to the new single, Janson just released his debut self-titled EP on September 3, 2013. The EP features 5 songs, including debut single “Better I Don’t” and new single “Cut Me Some Slack.” Of his new EP Janson says, “It is a pre-requiste to what the record is going to be. It’s exciting and I think people have been waiting for it for a long time.”
Chris has recorded the first half of his album and is in the process of finishing up the second half in the studio. When asked what one of his favorite moments have been so far Janson shared, “I think getting in there and just playing with the guys, the players I picked for this record. Just playing it live, I think every minute is kind of special.” Chris also indicated that one of his favorite moments was recording “When I’m Holdin’ Her” which can be found on his new EP.
2013 has been a standout year for Chris so far. One of his favorite moments has been playing at the Grand Ole Opry. “February 15th was my debut and I will never forget that. It was pretty unbelievable and my dream come true. I only ever wanted to do that in music and so now I’ve done it 15 times and that is like the biggest blessing of all.”
In addition to his Opry debut, Janson has reached several milestones throughout this year. He shares, “I had my first Top 40 with “Better I Don’t” on the radio. That was great, an unbelievable blessing. “Cut Me Some Slack” comes out on radio tomorrow [9/9/13] but it has been out a couple of weeks on SiriusXM. It’s doing really good at this point, already in the Top 20 on that. It’s just rockin the party. The EP is out. It has been a really big 2013. Touring all over the United States and playing to legit capacity crowds. It has been awesome, people actually know the music now, they are really into it and singing words to songs that I didn’t even know they knew. It’s nice to see things growing like they are and it has been pretty awesome.”
With music consistently evolving, especially country music, we asked Chris Janson what he thinks sets country music apart. “It’s interesting to say. A lot of it runs together for me as a listener” Chris shares. “So what I think sets MY country music apart is the steel guitar and harmonica. I think everyone’s individualistic music speaks for itself.”
Chris Janson is well on his way to a successful future in country music. His new single makes for a great addition to country radio, and his EP features five standout songs that listeners will enjoy.
