ACM nominee Eric Church‘s latest single, “Springsteen,” isn’t slowing down on the Country Billboard chart as it’s swiftly risen to No. 16, and after watching fans’ reaction to his performance of the tune Monday night (March 19) on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, it’s easy to see why. A nostalgic song that harks back to the glory days when Bruce Springsteen was the country star’s own “soundtrack to a July Saturday night,” Church’s appearance on Fallon was the first taping since its return from hiatus — only appropriate as The Boss himself was the last performance before the break. Church, a consummate performer, took liberties with the lyrics, which he co-wrote with Jeff Hyde and Ryan Tyndell, during the performance as fans surrounded the stage and chanted the chorus.
Church, who is currently selling out arenas across the country on his 50+ date The Blood, Sweat & Beers Tour, has experienced a whirlwind of a year since the release of his third album, CHIEF. Having garnered two 2012 ACM nominations for Album of the Year and Video of the Year, and his first-ever GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, Church also recently celebrated his first No. 1 single on country radio, “Drink In My Hand.” His latest, “Springsteen,” is his fastest-rising single to-date, hitting No. 16 on the charts in just seven weeks.
