MCA Nashville singer/songwriter Josh Kelley is releasing his second single, “Gone Like That,” today. He will debut the song on CBS’s The Talk on Tuesday.
In addition, his song “Beautiful Goodbye” is currently being featured in the promos for the final three episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which airs today through Wednesday. “Beautiful Goodbye” plays as some of the most memorable last TV moments are shown, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Cosby Show, Cheers and M*A*S*H, as well as last broadcasts of legends Johnny Carson and Walter Cronkite. “Gone Like That,” which Josh co-wrote with Clint Lagerberg and Nicolle Galyon, is special to him because it was the song that convinced him to pursue a country music career, which led to his record deal with MCA Nashville.
“When I sent “Gone Like That” into my publisher to pitch to a country artist, he said he really wanted me to record it,” Josh says. “Hearing his reaction to this song really gave me the confidence to pursue making a country album – something I wanted to do for a long time. Writing and recording ‘Gone Like That’ really made that dream of mine seem real and achievable and I’m so excited for it to be a single.”
And that is exactly what he did. He wrote or co-wrote every song on his debut country album, Georgia Clay, which was released in March and contains the Top 15 debut single, “Georgia Clay.” The Tennessean named him as one of “11 Artists to Watch in 2011.”
“Georgia Clay” was autobiographical in nature and captured his coming-of-age experiences in his father’s truck in Georgia. “Gone Like That” is also based on a real-life experience.
“When I was in college, there was this crazy, amazing girl who I’d see from time to time, but it was always fleeting,” he says. “Every time, she’d come crash at my place, then the next thing you’d know, she’d be gone. There were like 40 clubs in the area, and she’d always show up at the one I was hanging out at. We’d meet up, but then she always seemed to disappear and we never had the time to explore our relationship.”
Josh has been on tour with Miranda Lambert this year and will join Taylor Swift’s Speak Now tour in August and September.
He has also partnered with the ConAgra Foods Foundation to support a program called “Hunger-Free Summer.” Kelley and the ConAgra Foods Foundation will host a multi-city tour, visiting Feeding America food banks around the country and promoting awareness for the growing problem of hunger for children in the summer months. Kelley will conduct interviews with national and local media via a satellite media tour, radio media tour, and local market interviews throughout the summer to help raise awareness of this issue.
