Jesse Lee is gearing up for the release of her new single “Like My Mother Does” to country radio today, Monday, August 23. The song will also be available on iTunes beginning, Tuesday, August 24 and featured on her forthcoming debut album, set for release early next year.
Co-written by Liz Rose, Nikki Williams and Grammy Award winning producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift), the track is an uplifting and emotional tribute to a mother-daughter relationship that represents Jesse’s personal relationship with her mom.
“My mom’s my best friend, so when I’m singing that song, I’m coming from a very real place,” says Jesse. “When I played it for her for the first time, she cried.”
The song is already getting great reviews from critics and fans alike. Music Row Magazine’s Robert K. Oermann wrote, “Love her sweet, countrified delivery. And the topic of the lyric is refreshingly novel. Promising in the extreme.” CMT.com’s Alison Bonaguro said, “It’s a lovely sentiment coming from a heartfelt voice. All the country instruments are gorgeous, too.”
Jesse is currently out on the road visiting radio in support of her new single. In between runs, she is in the studio writing and recording for her yet-to-be-titled album.
Born in Northern California and raised in Florida, Jesse grew up with a deep appreciation for country music. By her early teenage years, Jesse was opening shows for artists such as Ronnie Milsap, Willie Nelson, Keith Urban and Clay Walker and spending extended periods of time recording and performing in Music City at famed Nashville venues like the Bluebird Café and the Ryman Auditorium. After high school, she enrolled in Belmont University’s music business program until being signed by Atlantic Records.
