Steel Magnolia Credits Their Musical Influences For Their Unique Sound

Steel Magnolia’s Joshua Scott Jones & Meghan Linsey are often told how unique their sound is, and for the duo, their musical influences play a big part in that.

“I think part of what makes our sound different is that we weren’t trying to be a duo,” notes Meghan. “We didn’t force anything, just came organically. You know, both of us come from such different places musically – with my soulful New Orleans influence and Josh’s roots in bluegrass and rock – and I think when you combine those two sounds, you get something unique. I don’t think we could have rehearsed this and tried to make this sound for ourselves.”

“When we started writing songs together, we naturally started singing together, and then we realized the unique blend that our voices have” says Josh. “We never set out to be a duo, it just happend.”

Well, it is obvious that their unplanned musical partnership is working. They were nominated for two American Country Music Awards, including Vocal Duo of the Year and have been nominated for two CMT Awards. The duo’s current hit “Keep On Loving You” is consistently climbing the charts and is sitting at #10 on the Billboard this week.
